Loadshedding? No problem. We are totally OFF THE GRID!

We offer a wide range of services, from general eye care to a specialised eye treatment such as pediatric eye care.

General Eye Care

Our qualified optometrists will recognise, treat, and write prescriptions to help manage all common eye conditions and anomalies. They will prescribe and fit spectacles, contact lenses, and low vision aids – such as telescopic spectacles or magnifying spectacles – as well as recommend eye strengthening exercises and vision therapy.

Our optometrists are also qualified to undertake vision therapy and can prescribe certain medications to treat conditions or diseases.

We look at both the internal and external structure of your eyes to detect anomalies or diseases, and may also test your ability to focus, co-ordinate the eyes, and accurately perceive depth and colours.

As one of the most complex organs in the human body, your eyes can be affected by genetic, environmental, and age-related issues. This can range from discomfort to more serious vision problems that can damage your eyesight. These can usually be divided into the following:

  • Eye conditions
  • Eye diseases
  • Vision symptoms

Our comprehensive eye exams cover a wide spectrum of potential eye conditions.

Driver’s Screening

This service is free of charge to our existing patients

Vision screenings are basic eye tests that help identify whether you have any problem with your vision, but does not test for eye diseases or the underlying causes for any vision problem you may have. Driver vision screening is generally used to determine whether your vision is sufficient for driving in order to get or renew your driver’s licence.
The vision test is usually a set of simple vision tests and assessments such as:

  • Testing your vision using the "Big E" or "Snellen" chart
  • Testing your eye's reaction to light and muscle coordination using simple charts or following a light to test your reactions

Visual Driver’s Screening

Time to renew your driver's license?

Skip a queue and have your visual screening done at Icare before you go. Please remember your ID and spectacles (if necessary).

Drivers screenings are used to determine whether a person meets the visual requirements for the renewal or application of a drivers license according to Regulation 102 of the National Road Traffic Act (Act 93 of 1996).

Once you pass the screening, you are issued with a certificate which forms part of your application. This certificate is an official document from the SA License Department and cannot be copied.

The screening can be done with or without spectacles, depending on the patient’s visual needs.

Paediatric Eye Care

We perform comprehensive visual examinations on children from the age of 6. We are also able to perform dyslexia evaluations on children from the age of 9.

It is essential to have children’s eyes examined before they start with grade 1. There are a number of conditions that may affect your child’s ability to perform certain tasks, and even impact learning.

Children should have regular eye examinations as visual needs and prescriptions change which can severely impact a child’s ability to learn and grow academically and socially.

An important factor to consider is the amount of time children spend on digital devices. Any digital device emits harmful blue light and research has shown that this greatly impacts our eyes.

The harmful blue light can lead to visual fatigue as well as macular degeneration later in life. Macular degeneration is a condition that affects the part of the eye that s responsible for the central visual field. Damage to the macula cannot be reversed.
